A crowd of us were in the Deane one night and decided to go to Southall in John's Ford Escort (John was one of the judo club members and was going out with Jane at the time). We piled into the car, probably about 6 of us, and headed to some pub in the Lady Margaret Road. I think Veronica O'Shea was with us too.
It was a very drunken affair (apart from John). When it was time to head back for last orders at The Deane Jane got in the front passenger seat and for some very strange reason I climbed in and sat on her lap. I spent the entire journey singing Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" at the top of my voice in her ear, all the way home. To this day I can't listen to it on the radio without laughing and thinking of it... the poor girl was probably traumatised!
